  1. Motorists have been hit with more than £500 million in fines since variable speed limits were introduced on UK roads in 2013 – with research revealing that one in eight of those caught simply didn’t realise lower speed limits were being enforced

THis is it, soon we will have auto-pilot cars, smart motorways, 0 jobs :D

Impressive hours there, but not impressive earnings for you hard work. You deserve alot more for those hours.

Your hours average over 10 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK! to earn that.  Add on other time for having a break, tiredness. Time out on the road could well be 80+ hours. This is not sustainable at all for most people for many reasons.

. . . And these figures are NOT your earnings.

Most people rent a car at around £200.   To work that many hours on the road (70 hours+) will cost well over £100 diesel.

Other costs add up to over £20 per week.

Take the above costs off. You will then have your earnings. Oh, and tax and national insurance to come out of your own pocket.

Doing those long hours is dangerous to you and your customers. Also it is damaging to physical and mental health and wellbeing. The amount of Uber cars/private hire cars involved in accidents due to tiredness is a big problem for the trade.

Are these the figures from when you worked in Manchester?

This is from London mate, in Manchester I was just visiting.

I agree long hours indeed, but then again many people work for £1,300/month and they don't have the luxury to own a car. Nothing is perfect mate:(

You don't make £800-£900 for 50 hours. Complete fantasy figures.

What is your role with Uber? Social media monitor? Advertising and marketing team member?

No mate, why do you say this?

Of course people are making those kinda of money otherwise you will not see so many cars online, right?

AS I said on the other post, London is expensive:P

Where are you based if you don't mind asking and what is your hourly average?

  4. 2019 or 2020 for all diesel cars older than 4 years even if you are PHV

From 8 April 2019, the most polluting cars, vans and motorbikes will have to pay £12.50 to drive through central London, while buses, coaches and HGVs will pay £100.

London's ultra low emission zone (ULEZ):

    • Covers the same area as the existing congestion zone and will be in addition to the congestion charge
    • Applies to petrol vehicles that do not meet Euro 4 standards and diesel vehicles that do not meet Euro 6 standards
    • Will apply 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
    • Will not apply to residents living in the zone until April 2022
    • Black taxis are exempt-but not PHV
    • Replaces the £10 T-Charge which will apply for older cars entering the capital from October

Brian McClendon, the vice president of maps at Uber, is leaving the company after close to two years, the company has confirmed. McClendon joined the ride-hail company after more than 10 years of working at Google’s mapping department.

“Mr. McClendon is departing amicably from Uber and will be an adviser to the company,” an Uber spokesperson said in a statement, noting he was “moving back to Kansas where he is from to explore politics. His exit has been in the works for some time and his last day at Uber is March 28.”

McClendon’s is the latest in a series of departures from the company, which has been shaken by recent accusations of sexual harassment and sexism, leading CEO Travis Kalanick to admit he needs to “grow up” and commit to hiring a chief operating officer.

  6. Uber is losing too much money (way more than either Amazon or MS), and the two possible paths to survival are not getting appreciably closer. They either need to replace drivers with automation, or monopolize the market significantly enough to set profitable rates.

  7. Guys please make sure you check before apply for an English test, confirm with TFL the certificate is good and recognised by them. I have friends who done it with some God knows centres and then TFL said is not good.

They have to do it again after wasting time and money....

There are currently two approved interim English language test providers: Trinity College London and IELTS (International English Language Test System

  8. I agree :)

By far this is the best phone holder I have ever used in my car or seen used by others.

    Best £12 invested so far

WUTEKU car holder £12 on Amazon

The magnet is so subtle on the back of your phone and actually looks nice. It even works through a thin plastic case.
The piece that sticks to your dashboard is so very stable and secure and once in place, it rotates to wherever you would like your phone pointing.

  9. Reception strength by brands:

    Best:

    Motorola
    Blackberry
    Sony

    The average signal :

    Apple
    Htc

    Weak signal devices :

    Samsung
    LG??

When your phone is losing reception in that moment you can not receive requests, simple as that.

The phone will lose reception when the signal is low and then will reset the link by connecting to a closer tower for a better reception, if the signal is constant the number of link resets will be lower which it means, less data lost :)
