fullpower
Hi guys, I am wonder if anyone done the replacement for timing chain. I have an bmw f10 520d 2010 and i noticed the noise from the back of the engine, went to bmw specialist and they confirm is the timing chain, needs to be replaced, looks like is a common fault for 2l diesel engines n47. They charge £1200 + vat for the operation. Any advices? Thanks

Zaven
My car had the timing chain and crank replaced while it was under warranty, I didn't actually do the repair myself as I don't have the tools/space to do it, but I am aware of what the issues are and what needs doing
Bobbycab2002
HI ! My 61 520d auto is in the garage for timing chains replacement. i have bought it to use it 7 months ago...it has 120k on the clock now....all ok until monday morning...when at start starting the noise ....i went to 4 different garages i was quoted from 1300 to 2500 for the job. Now is in for work to a specialist garage ..i will post the name and price when is done...is the there for 3 days now...engine has to come out...Also they discovered that the DPF partially blocked...is kind of normal when you do 3.6 miles/hr in London ....mine was regenerating 3 times a day!!!!!! and start driving like s... Had a MERC before this an 06 plate 320....MUCH BETTER...i DONE 276K. I Think seriosly to sell it as there are no many exec jobs anyway and join the prius fleet. I agree Bobby , i spend £3000 with my current 520 F10 and before that i had the E320, great car . Or maybe we should have chosen the 530D???? How is 530? i don't see any timing chain problem on the internet My one was done in London, SE, DandT wise

bigboss
My car is working like a dream now, after i spend £2500. I changed the manifold , only that cost me £500. I have done mine in Bexleyheath, Kent DA6 8AA. http://www.dandtwise.co.uk/contact_us.php Very professional, good BMW specialist . I totally recommend , i could have done it cheaper, but did not want to take the risk!!

Dan is the biggest crook, ive done thr job and he used low quality chain and now after 40k miles the noise is back. He used starline instead of genuine timing chain kit. Shame shame because i paid £ 2600. Dont go to Dan
