The personal allowance will rise from £10,000 this tax year to £10,600 on April 6, which was previously announced. This means the first £10,600 you earn will be tax free for most workers. This will rise to £10,800 in 2016/17 and £11,000 the following year. The starting level of the 40pc tax will also rise from £41,865 to £42,385 on April 6. It will then rise to £42,700 in 2016/17 and £43,300 in 2017/18.
